Standard is to wait for TRE after historic review. Met with Michael Taku of Historic Division to provide overview of project and discuss next hearing date (April). Note: Building eligible for national historic register - review by TPCHC required (5.1.2.6.E.2.a.1, UDC)
1) Canopy sign at corner of Scott and Congress & projecting sign on Scott, are in right of way (ROW). A Temporary Revocable Easement (TRE) is required to utilize city ROW. The TRE process is through the Department of Transportation. Staff will provide a referral upon addressing the following comments.
2) Canopy, projecting and wall signage - and non-commercial mural, require a review through the Tucson Pima County Historic Commission (TPCHC) as they are exterior alterations proposed to a building eligible for national historic register in downtown (UDC 5.1.2.6.E.2.a.1). Staff will provide referral to historic division for this review upon the following comments being addressed.
3) Wall sign on SE elev: (7A.4.1.A.5.)
a) Understood architect's renderings show logo now removed from sign package, per DRB recommendation (will note in referral to historic)
b) Sheet 2 material graphic illegible, use outline and labels at dimensional area.
c) Noted illumination is LED with multi-color capable. Treated same as digital copy light source, NOTE on plans, "sign light color must be constant and may change a maximum of 1 x per minute w/o animation -no blinking, flashing, scintillating, fading transition, etc.)"
d) Label illumination as "internal, reverse pan halo outline illumination".
e) Increase UL label size, came out too small to scan for records.
f) Number of attachments not clear to the building - note, will be subject to historic review.
4) Canopy sign on SE elev: (7A.4.1.A.5)
a) Clarify how letters mounted to plate? (i.e. brazing weld in shop, or screws to plate per letter)
b) Clarify mounting of plate to canopy (i.e. plate made of?, screws/bolt sizes and number)
c) Architect's rendering - missing word "BAR" - please add to sign area on app/plans if being kept
d) Show canopy sign outline on site plan to see part is in right of way for TRE process referral.
5) Projecting sign on east elev: (7A.4.1.A.5)
a) Mounting tubes are made of?
b) Clarify how tubes attached to plate
c) Note mounting tubes to be rounded off at ends so as no sharp points for safety (7A.4.7).
d) Noted illumination is LED with multi-color capable. Treated same as digital copy light source, note on plans, "the sign light color must be constant and may change a maximum of 1 x per minute w/o animation - no blinking, flashing, scintillating, fading transition, etc.)"
e) Sign will overhang into city right of way and is subject to TRE process. Show zoom in of wall, sign projection at 4.5' and 3.7' distance wall to property line per architect's plans.
6) Non-commercial mural is not a sign, but is subject to historic review. Will include in referral.
