APPLICATION & DRAWING DENIED. As per COT Sign Code 3-16.
REASONS:
1.DQ is bordered by two (2) restrictive scenic corridors. Tanque Verde & Bear Canyon.
Any business located on a scenic corridor is restricted to 1.25 sq ft of signage per linear foot of the buildings length.
DQ is 50' long.
50 x 1.25 =62.5.
DQ is restricted to 62.5 sq ft of wall signs.
Current submittals wall sign total is 88 sq ft.
The current submittal is 25.5 sq ft over its wall sign allocation.

2.The NEW shaped illuminated sign cabinet cannot replace the exisiting cabinet.
The current Freestanding DQ sign is an older non-conforming sign.
This sign was built along time ago before the current COT sign code was adopted in the 1980s
A freestanding sign is no longer allowed at this location
as per the current COT sign code 3-16.
Provisions for older signs of this type allow them to stay as is, as long as
a.the business remains as is
b.The sign pole and cabinet remain the same.
(The vinyl graphics can change, but not the cabinet.)

SIDE NOTES: apparently this DQ tries to get its Freestand sign changed every few years.
A local Tucson sign contractor recently contacted Andy and inquired about replacing the existing cabinet on the freestanding sign and was told "It not allowed" perhaps DQ is now looking for sign contractors outside of Tucson that will hopefully give them a different answer.
