05/08/2015 INSP - INITIAL CODE ENFORCMENT Approved VISITED SITE, MET WITH TFD CAPTAIN WHO INFORMED ME THAT TENANT IN UNTI I-209 HAD BEEN SMOKING ON THE PORCH OF THE 2ND STORY UNIT, DROPPED HIS CIGARRETTE THAT FELL INTO A GAP APPROXIMATEMLY WHERE THE PORCH/ BALCONY BEAM POCKETED INTO THE APT WALL OF UNIT I-109. TENANTS IN I-109 MADE THE CALL TO TFD WHO DID OPEN UP A SMALL SECTION OF WALL AND FOUND THE END OF THE BEAM FIRE DAMAGED, AND THE DBL TOP PLATES OF THE WALL FOR ABOUT 3 FT ALSO FIRE DAMAGED. FIRE DAMAGE TO THE END OF THE BEAM WAS DIRRECTLY ABOVE TRIMMERS WHERE THE BEARING SECTION OF BEAM SAT, ELIMINATING THE BEARING PORTION OF THE BEAM. A NEW BEAM SHOULD BE INSTALLED WITH PROPER BEARING, RATERS IN THE CEILING / DECK AREA RECEIVED NO DAMAGE, STUDS IN THE WALLS BELOW THE DOUBLE TOP PLATES RECEIVED NO DAMAGE. MINOR DRYWALL WILL NEED TO BE REMOVED INORDER TO REPLACE THE BURNED SECTION OF DBL TOP PLATE. AND STUCCO REMOVED TO BE ABLE TO REMOVE THE BEAM AND RE INSTALL.
TENANTS IN BOTH UNITS ELECTED TO STAY IN UNITS DUE TO THE SMALL AMOUNT OF FIRE DAMAGE. NOV ISSUED TO OWNER ON SITE, POSSIBLE PERMITS REQUIRED FOR THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE.
