We need the following information on a site plan:

FREESTANDING SIGNS ARE REQUIRED TO INCLUDE WITH SUBMITTALS: A scaled site plan indicating street frontage, property lines, sight visibility triangles, proposed and existing rights-of-way, location of sign on property and relationship of proposed sign to ingress and egress points. Previously approved site plan can be found @ http://www.tucsonaz.gov/PRO/pro/devactionsrch.jsp

Note: The set back is measured from the edge of curb or pavement to the leading edge of sign. Height is measured from top of curb street side to the top pf sign.

Provide the information on a site plan and we can send it out for inspection.

THE FOLLOWING CODES APPLY TO THIS REVIEW: OUTDOOR LIGHTING CODE (OLC), UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT CODE (UDC), INTERNATIONAL BUILDING CODE (IBC), SIGN CODE (SC), NATIONAL ELECTRIC CODE (NEC)

*This site was reviewed as a stand alone premise within the General Business District.*

***EXCEPT FOR SCALED DRAWINGS, REVISED PLANS MAY BE EMAILED TO REVIEWER AT HEATHER.THRALL@TUCSONAZ.GOV***

SIGN TYPE:
1) This project site is not within 250' of a freeway. Please remove the freeway sign both from the application and the set of drawings.
2) Remove the reference to a low-profile sign ("LP") from the permit application for the monument sign. The appropriate reference is "DF" for double-faced monument. Revise application.
SITE PLAN / SIGN LOCATION / SETBACK:
3) Three site plans were received for this proposal - 2 are smaller site plans that show the sign in the interior of the site, near the building - neither of these plans are to scale, as required for a freestanding sign review. Remove these plans from the permit package.
4) Staff reviewed the 3rd site plan received (by FED EX). Only 1 copy was sent in. Two copies are required for permit issuance. This 3rd site plan is a copy of the approved development package for this site, and shows the proposed sign near Alvernon. The 40' setback on the plan is not taken from Alvernon face of curb - it's uncertain what this measurement is taken from (measurement line disappears near handicap access ramp). In addition, the sign setback from Juarez is scaling less than the minimum 20' required for a monument sign. For the review to continue:
A) Provide 2 copies of the scaled site plan showing the correct sign location
B) Show the sign on the scaled site plan with the setback dimension from the face of street curb of both Alvernon and Juarez.
C) The sign should be located on private property and be a minimum of 20' from face of all street curbs.
D) Ensure with resubmittal - and possible readjustment to location - that the sign is positioned such that it does not count toward both street fronts, but off of only one street front or the other.
SIGN AREA:
5) Revise the sign area noted on the permit application to match the revised plans received 7/10/14.
6) Dimension side view of the sign at the cabinet and the base.
SIGN HEIGHT:
7) Per 3-33/Sign Code Administrator determination: for signs 40 and closer to a roadway (Juarez street), the height of a sign is taken from either top of street curb or elevation of outside edge of the adjacent street (Juarez). Show elevation view with height at the base of the sign and height taken from Juarez street - top of curb or elevation of outside edge of street.
8) Per 3-33/Sign Code Administrator determination: for signs more than 40' from a roadway (Alvernon side), the height of the sign is taken from the lowest point of a finished surface within 20 of the base of the sign. Acknowledged that an elevation view of the sign was provided showing only a 6" difference in elevation from Alvernon top of curb to grade at the base of the sign. Please revise to show the height at the base of the sign, and the lowest point of a finished surface within 20' of the base of the sign.
ATTACHMENT:
9) Per 3-18, understood pipe connects through cabinet thru base then thru footer. Note or diagram how cabinet is mounted to base.
10) Per 3-18, diagram appears to show brick base. Plans do not specify what the base structure is made of and note that it will be installed "by others". Identify as brick base or if other type of surface with décor to resemble brick.
11) Per 3-18/3-22.D.3, base may be installed by others, however, the footer of the sign must be inspected prior to installation. NOTE: once sign permit is issued, the sign contractor assumes responsibility to ensure sign footer hole inspection is called in prior to concrete pour, regardless who installs the base.
12) Acknowledged the structural diagram and calculations showing support pole through the sign cabinet and base thru footer. The submitted elevation views of the sign list a different size of support pole than engineering provided, revise.
13) Per Structural Reviewer, on engineering drawing, inset drawing #2 - label location of this "saddle" on the adjacent elevation view.
14) Per Structural Reviewer, identify the material the "saddle" and the support pipes are comprised of for further review.
15) Per Structural Reviewer, dimension the full lengths of the cross bars that will be welded to the support pipe.
16) Per Structural Reviewer, appears the "saddle weld" depicted in engineer's drawing is to be done on-site, which is a special inspection for "field welding". Special inspection certificate required for field welding. Engineer to stamp certificate, identify inspection required and identify qualified inspector to perform this type of inspection. Special inspection certificate is required to be reviewed by structural reviewer prior to sign permit release. Certificate is found at this link: http://pdsd.tucsonaz.gov/files/pdsd/forms/Special_Inspection_Certificate_1-9-14.pdf
ELECTRICAL:
17) Per 3-18 D.5, the original electrical diagram provided is for a different sized sign cabinet. Provide electrical data for the revised cabinet size. Labe the light source, call out the number of volts, amps, and circuits. Reviewer acknowledges the notations that a timer will be provided and that the disconnect switch is shown in accordance with NEC 600 on the plans.

*** NOTE: setback and grade check inspection cannot be done at this time with the expected revisions to the sign location. Setback/grade check will be done at resubmittal.***

GENERAL: Further review comments may be forthcoming, depending upon the responses provided.
