07/07/2014 | SIGN SITE REVIEW | Correction Required | PERMIT T14OT00572 RE: REPLACEMENT MONUMENT SIGN AT: 9401 E 22ND STREET, FRY'S SHOPPING CENTER REVIEWER: HEATHER.THRALL@TUCSONAZ.GOV 2nd REVIEW (OF 3RD REVISION AND MOST RECENT SUBMITTAL 6/25) APPLICABLE CODES: SIGN CODE (SC), OUTDOOR LIGHTING CODE (OLC), NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE (NEC), INTERNATIONAL BUILDING CODE (IBC) 1) ***Contractor provided partial and old site plan of overall shopping center, however, this overall plan is without details, shows only lot lines. Appears records information is limited. Planning staff assisted with records search for a more complete site plan for overall shopping center, however, no additional site plans were found in microfilm. Per SC 3-18, 3-77C.5 & consultation with Sign Code Administrator, an overall site plan is needed for examination of uses on site, parking calculations for such uses, access, lot lines, frontages, curb locations and number of existing freestanding signs and evaluation of possible self-contained or stand alone premises. (All affect number of allowed freestanding signs.) *** 2) A site plan was found for the corner gas station, appears to support a self-contained premise with it's own 32 sqft freestanding sign. Further evaluation will be made once a site plan is found for the overall development. 3) New footer evaluation - difference between a drawing attached to recent engineering submittal and the drawing sent in by email with the new/old pipes shown. Clarify if only the new/old pipes drawing is to be used and if other drawing should be discarded - or update other drawing footer to match. 4) Grade and setback inspection was done 6/3/14 to evaluate differential between elevation at top of street curb and sign base, and to determine if setback adequate for current sign location (to re-use footer as well) or if new sign location would be needed. D. Roberts noted setback was 17.5' from face of curb with a 2.9' grade difference from top of curb to lower grade at base of sign. Demonstrate elevation difference on drawing. 5) (PRIOR COMMENT) Acknowledged, proposed sign area at 50 sqft meets code for monument signage. Provide dimensions on sign panels for future change of copy. **Note - the sign area is no longer listed on the plan with this revision, please revise.*** 6) ***The prior acknowledged electrical details were removed from the plans. No volts, circuits, amps are listed. *** 7) Per O.L.C. 403, Provide notation that a timer will be provided. 8) Note the road has widened since the 1987 site plan, a revised drawing will be needed for determining setbacks and ensuring the sign is outside sight visibility triangles. Our engineering division can assist with obtaining this information. 9) Further review will be done with evaluation of the overall site plan. Further review comments may be forthcoming, depending upon information provided. |

06/26/2014 | SIGN SITE REVIEW | Continued | Emailed sign contractor's rep - one of the plans submitted in email has "not for construction" stamp all across it - appears to be a prelim drawing. Contractor will send revised version of that diagram.
06/25/2014 | SIGN SITE REVIEW | Continued | Contractor's representative emailed revised sign diagrams and engineering - elected to add a 2nd footer instead of trying to re-use exist footer with an off-set. Review continues.
06/23/2014 | SIGN SITE REVIEW | Continued | Addisigns sent in revised plans by email. Proposal shows pipe now is off-center for replacement sign off Harrison. Eric advises he will need revised engineering for review, ASA doesn't have off-center engineering in standard packet - emailed contractor's rep.
06/06/2014 | SIGN SITE REVIEW | Continued | Contractor's representative has submitted revisions and new engineering information as well as an inventory of existing freestanding signs on overall site. Review continues.
06/03/2014 | SIGN SITE REVIEW | Continued | Inspection by D.Roberts - off Harrison, for evaluating possible re-use of existing sign footer, took setback - at 17.5' (leading edge of current sign), with 2.9' grade differential.
05/30/2014 | SIGN SITE REVIEW | Continued | Met with contractor's representative to discuss proposal and revisions needed, as well as status of site plan research.
05/23/2014 | SIGN SITE REVIEW | Correction Required | PERMIT T14OT00572 RE: REPLACEMENT MONUMENT SIGN AT: 9401 E 22ND STREET, FRY'S SHOPPING CENTER REVIEWER: HEATHER.THRALL@TUCSONAZ.GOV APPLICABLE CODES: SIGN CODE, OUTDOOR LIGHTING CODE, NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE, INTERNATIONAL BUILDING CODE STAFF MET WITH CONTRACTOR'S REP 5/23 TO DISCUSS PROPOSAL. FURTHER INFORMATION IS NEEDED TO EVALUATE THE ABILITY TO REMOVE EXISTING MONUMENT AND REPLACE WITH A NEW MONUMENT, PER CURRENT SIGN CODE CRITERIA. 1) Contractor provided a partial site plan and an older site plan of overall shopping center, however, this overall plan is without details, shows lot lines. Appears records information is limited. Staff will assist with records search for a more complete site plan for overall shopping center. The overall site plan is needed for examination of uses on site, parking calculations for such uses, access, lot lines, frontages, curb locations and number of freestanding signs and evaluation of possible self-contained or stand alone premises. (All affect number of allowed freestanding signs.) 2) A site plan was found for the corner gas station, appears to support a self-contained premise with it's own 32 sqft freestanding sign. Further evaluation will be made once a site plan is found for the overall development. 3) Contractor to clarify further if existing freestanding sign footer would be used for the proposed replacement sign - may depend upon setbacks. Contractor informed additional drawing would be needed if utilizing new footer. 4) Grade and setback inspection to be done 5/27 to evaluate differential between elevation at top of street curb and sign base, and to determine if setback adequate for current sign location (to re-use footer as well) or if new sign location would be needed. 5) Acknowledged, proposed sign area at 50 sqft meets code for monument signage. Provide dimensions on sign panels for future change of copy please. 6) Acknowledged electrical details, thank you. 7) Provide an inventory of existing freestanding signs for the entire site (photos fine) - affects number of proposed freestanding signs for the site/frontages and determining whether any are nonconforming. |
