04/11/2014 INSP - INITIAL CODE ENFORCMENT Approved I was called out by Tucson Fire to a restaurant at 7053 E. Tanque Verde for a small fire. According to the TFD fire cause investigator the business owner had some cooking equipment replaced last night while the business was closed. This morning crews came in and started preparing food for the day and began using one of the burners on the new range. A few hours later someone noticed the odor of smoke and TFD was summonsed. Firefighters removed the newly installed range and removed a stainless steel shield attached to an adjacent wall, removed the drywall and discovered some of the studs in the exterior wall were charred and the source of the odor of smoke. There were no defects or faulty installation procedures found. There was no electric involved and SWG tested all natural gas lines and found everything was in a good state of repair.
I explained to the business owner that he would need a restoration permit and a licensed contractor to make the necessary repairs. I suggested he contact a design professional for advice on the reconstruction to avoid a similar situation in the future.
