I met with the property owner and the manager on site and discussed the problem. Owner stated that the tenant in apartment 1112 did not has not had electricity since mid October and was stealing electricity from a exterior light fixture via an extension cord. Furthermore the owner indicated the tenant has not paid rent for 3 months and will be evicted. I explained that I would give the tenant 24 hours to resolve his account with the power company and then I would need to condemn the unit for no electricity. I knocked on the door of the apt. in question and a man answered. I explained that by code he was prohibited from occupying his apartment without all utilities being connected and functional. I explained I would allow him 24 hours to get the power back on and then I would have no other option that to condemn the unit and ask him to leave. He said he understood and would do whatever possible to resolve the problem. I advised the manager and the owner I would return at approximately 10:00 on the 23rd to follow up. |
