Received call from Norma in office that T.F.D. on site with a balcony fire. Arrived and all the units have left the site and the investigators were doing the investigation. The fire was on an exterior balcony and was mostly a content fire of plants, plastic pots and some cothing or rugs. There is some burning on the wood decking and only on the surface with no structure damage. The was a wood trellis from the metal railing to the upper deck and the was damaged. The sprinkler on the balcony did go off and put the fire off and most of the water damage was on the exterior. The unit was vacant at the time of the fire and only being used for storage. The bottom unit was vacant and some of the water did enter the unit due to the sliding glass door was opened. The owner of the unit on the bottom was on site and did clean the water on the floor. Did check for any other damage and found none on the bottom unit of #178. The investigators did talk to the tenants of the upper unit due to the upper deck has cigar butts sticking through the gaps of the wood decking. The power was removed and was not able to put the power back on. Did call T.E.P. to have the meter re-stored and they will pull the boots off by tomorrow morning. Did make contact with the management and they call the sprinkler company to the site for the replacement of the head on the balcony area. United Fire did show and replaced the sprinkler head on the balcony and put the system back on. He did check the system for leaks and found none. Once the system was on did call communication to let T.F.D. know that the system was back on and working. The management will make contact of the owner of the unit #378 to let the owner be aware of the fire caused by smoking and the butts on the decking of the balcony. The was no paper work due to the damage was only to contents on the balcony and no damage to the structure. At this time the case will be closed. Violation Abated, Close Case. RV. |
