Comments:

1) see comment 1 from 7/31 review regarding sign area. Contractor has been contacted with advisement how to proceed with measuring sign area.

2) Freestanding sign height: Sign Code Section 3-33:
For freestanding signs within 40 feet of an adjacent roadway, height is measured from the elevation at the adjacent roadway to the top of the sign cabinet. Sheet 2 of 7 on the grading plans for development show the sign is in a landcaped area leading to a retention/detention basin. The elevation at the sign is 2347 MSL, and that same elevation is noted at the edge of the roadway. On the color elevation view of the monument sign, please add a note indicating the elevation at both the grade at the base of the sign and at the adjacent roadway so it's understood the sign is going to remain at 8' tall and not increase/decrease due to a grade difference.

OUTDOOR LIGHTING CODE REVIEW: Reviewed by Ray Majuta, contact at 520-837-4988 or at Ray.Majuta@tucsonaz.gov

1) submitted literate is not legible - too small. (Enlarge print to 12 point minimum for review and for records purposes)

2) As per City of Tucson Outdoor Lighting Ordinance #10963, Section 501.3.1 - the color temperature of lamps shall no exceed 4400K, verify this on the plan.

3) Since the LED sign cannot be limited to 200 NITS after sunset to sunrise per 501.5, and the store is to remain open til 10:00 pm. does it mean the LED sign is to be turned off sunset to sunrise, controlled thru a time clock? Indicate on plan and show where time clock to be located.

4) Please review Section 501 Sign Lighting of the City of Tucson Outdoor Lighting Code 2012.

07/31/2012 SIGN SITE REVIEW Denied Signs Review:

1) Sign area, as calculated on drawings and listed on application, exceeds the 250 square feet total sign area allowed for building signage within the Scenic Corridor Zone District, per 3-82.B.1. (St. Mary's is Scenic west of Silverbell and the site is within 400' of the Scenic Route, thus the Scenic Corridor designation for sign code.) Please contact staff for suggestion on how to measure the sign area of the proposed signs.

Note: the project is undergong review by Outdoor Lighting Code and Structural Divisions, further review comments may be forthcoming. These preliminary sign code review comments are provided as a courtesy to the contractor to begin adjustments to the drawings.
