07/17/2012 | INSP - INITIAL CODE ENFORCMENT | Approved | Received a call from communication that T.F.D. on site with an apartment fire on the 3rd floor. Arrived and the units were waiting for the arson investigators to complete the investigation for the cause of the fire. They did kick the door to unit #882 to check for if the fire extended in the unit. The fire was in a storage area for building M on the 3rd floor. The fire was a content fire with clothing, furniture and paper being burned. There was no damage to the structure other than heavy smoke damage to the storage area only. Holes were made in the ceiling in the rear of the storage room area on the 3rd floor and the walk way area in front of the storage room. The ceiling is a double layer of drywall on wood frame trusses with no damage to the wood in all the areas. The walk way had wood siding over the drywall and one sheet was removed. The spaces for storage for the tenants are made of plywood and they were not damaged other than smoke on unpainted wood. At this time the door will be locked by the management to the storage area until the area can be cleaned up. Where the door kicked in on unit # 882, they will be locking it with a temporary lock due to the door jamb has been broken when kicked in and not able to lock or secure the unit. The management will place the tenant in another unit due to the somke got into the unit. The tenant is not on site and the management will be leaving a note and keys to stay in another unit for the night. The gas was turned off at the regulators to building M only. S.W.G. was called to site and they will not be doing anything with the gas being turned back on due to on a master system and they can only deal with the gas to the main meter supplying the area in questioned and that main meter for the area is still on and never turned off. Did meet with the maintenance men and they need to make sure that the gas appliances have to be turned on and if one appliance can't be tuned on, will need to leave the gas off to that area. While on site, did go over where the gas was turned off with S.W.G. and what needed to be done to have the gas staying on for building M. All the other buildings and units have there gas on and were not involved in the gas being turned off. The electrical was all turned back on to all the units. Took pictures and the leasing agent signed the indemnification to secure the storage room of building M on the 3rd floor and the unit #882. Met with the supervisor of maintenance and went over that the drywall needs to be done as soon as possible due to being a fire rated system of the attic area of the building. He stated that the work will done by Friday and will call the contractor tomorrow in the morning. Will check in 3 days. RV. |
