Except as specifically permitted by this section egress doors shall be readily openable from the egress side without the use of a key or special knowledge or effort. 1008.1.5 unlatching. The unlatching of any door or leaf shall not require more than one operation. EXPLANATION OF WHY CONFORMANCE WITH THE ABOVE REQUIREMENT PRESENTS AN UNUSUAL PROBLEM: The extra lock is necessary due to the fact that the children have to go through that area to use the restroom and to go to the eating area. Current childcare owner told me that they had to put extra lock due to an accident they had where a child pushed the door open and ran out after the teachers were able to catch him the child was on Speedway and Wilmot a very busy street. STATE SPECIFICALLY WHAT IS PROPOSED IN LIEU OF LITERAL COMPLIANCE: I am open to any suggestions from the fire department. There will be a need for another lock in order to keep the kids safe. DECISION OF THE FIRE CODE OFFICIAL: APPROVED WITH STIPULATIONS: REPLACE UPPER LOCK WITH A HANDLE ON THE INSIDE OF DOOR. PER CHIEF DAN UTHE FIRE MARSHAL. 01/12/11. |
