Equipment malfunction on 10/27/2010 in which a balast melted and produced small flame in a food cooler at the NW entrance to Safeway. I was shopping off duty and heard a call for managament to the front for a smoking appliance. Iassisted in removing balast from cooler and ordered management to place cooler O/S and cut all electric to the appliance until repaired by a qualified professional. The following morning while dropping of the report, the cooler technician had already repaired the damamged shelf/connection. He stated a loose balast connection had caused overheating and started the flame. Equipment has been repaired and is now returned to service. See attached field report for detailed information. |
