06/11/2010 | VIOL - MEANS OF EGRESS | Violation | PROBLEM #1- TWO EXIT GATES ARE WELDED SHUT ON THE NORTH AND SOUTH SIDE OF BUILDING, AND 1 EXIT GATE REQUIRES A KEY TO EXIT ON THE EAST SIDE OF BUILDING. THE ABOVE IS IN VIOLATION OF INTERNATION FIRE CODE REFERENCE NUMBER(S): 1008.1.8 Door operations. Except as specifically permitted by this section egress doors shall be readily openable from the egress side without the use of a key or special knowledge or effort. 1028.2 Reliability. Required exit accesses, exits or exit discharges shall be continuously maintained free from obstructions or impediments to full instant use in the case of fire or other emergency when the areas served by such exits are occupied. Security devices affecting means of egress shall be subject to approval of the fire code official. 1024.6 Access to a public way. The exit discharge shall provide a direct and unobstructed access to a public way. 504.2 Maintenance of exterior doors and openings. Exterior doors and their function shall not be eliminated without prior approval. YOU WILL RESTORE ALL WELDED-SHUT GATES TO THEIR PREVIOUS USEABLE CAPACITY AND YOU WILL ENSURE THAT ALL EXIT GATES ARE ABLE TO BE EXITED FROM THE INSIDE WITHOUT THE USE OF A KEY OR SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE. |
