01/25/2010 | INSP - FULL | Approved | Petition of Appeal to the Fire Code Official: Fire apparatus access roads to be "paved with structural sections designed in accordance with City of Tucson Development Standard 3-01-3.0" Development Standard 3-01.3.0 states under subsection A.5 that "the minimum structural section for temporary paving is two inches of asphaltic concrete pavement on compacted earth." Explaination of why conformance with the above requirement presents an unusual problem- Letter from Architect on file. STATE SPECIFICALLY WHAT IS PROPOSED IN LIEU OF LITERAL COMPLIANCE: It is proposed that under section 503.2.3 of the 2006 modified Tucson Fire Code, in lieu of Development Standard 3-01.3A.5, standard detail WWM III (attached) be permitted per the attached design mix specification recommending that the section be enhanced to 8" thick compacted soil stabilized with 6.0% Portland cement in order to support fire emergency vehicles per the AASHTO 1993 Design Guide and ADOT Preliminary Engineering and Design Manual. The specification attached was prepared for use on this project by Pima County Wastewater through its contractor, The Ashton Company Inc. in support of this appeal and concept.
