Dear Mr. Sheldon

The Tucson Fire Department has conducted a fire safety inspection at the above stated business on November 24, 2009. Below is a list of violations that shall be corrected to provide compliance with the applicable codes, regulations and ordinances. Compliance is required by the 2006 International Fire Code (with modifications). A Re-inspection will be performed on or about December 15, 2009

Notice of Violations:
1._____ 1008.1.8.3 Locks and latches. Locks and latches shall be permitted to prevent operation of doors where any of the following exits:
2.2. A readily visible durable sign is posted on the egress side on or adjacent to the door stating: THIS DOOR TO REMAIN UNLOCKED WHEN BUILDING IS OCCUPIED. The sign shall be in letters 1 inch (25mm)high on a contrasting background,

Required Action: Provide the required signage on the inside of the main front door.

2. _____ 315.2.1 Ceiling clearance. Storage shall be maintained 2 feet (610 mm) or more below the ceiling in nonsprinklered areas of buildings or a minimum of 18 inches (457 mm) below sprinkler head deflectors in sprinklered areas of buildings.

Required Action: Stock shall be reduced to maintain 24' of clearance from
the ceiling

3. ______ 1021.2 Width. The width of exit passageways shall be determined as specified in Section 1005.1 but such width shall not be less than 44 inches (1118 mm), except that exit passageways serving an occupant load of less than 50 shall not be less than 36 inches (914 mm) in width.

The required width of exit passageways shall be unobstructed.

Required Action: The exit width on aisle 20 has been reduced by a tire rack, the tires further reduce the width on both sides.. Maintain clear and unobstructed width of the exit.

4._____ 906.7 Hangers and brackets. Hand-held portable fire extinguishers, not housed in cabinets, shall be installed on the hangers or brackets supplied.

Required Action:
- The fire extinguisher on aisle 20 shall be properly mounted.
- The fire extinguisher in the "deadroom" shall be properly mounted

5. ______ 1008.1.8.4 Bolt locks. Manually operated flush bolts or surface bolts are not permitted.

Required Actions: Remove all slidebolt, locking hasp, bars or drop bars from exit doors, including East exit from the stock room.

6. _____ 504.2 Maintenance of exterior doors and openings.
Exterior doors and their function shall not be eliminated without prior approval. Exterior doors that have been rendered nonfunctional and that retain a functional door exterior appearance shall have a sign affixed to the exterior side of the door with the words THIS DOOR BLOCKED. The sign shall consist of letters having a principal stroke of not less than 0.75 inch (19.1 mm) wide and at least 6 inches (152 mm) high on a contrasting background. Required fire department access doors shall not be obstructed or eliminated. Exit and exit access doors shall comply with Chapter 10.

Required Action: Currently the is a door that is not accessible to the building. It appears from the outside to be a access point. Provide the proper signage on the outside if the South door to indicate that the door has been rendered unusable.
