10/16/2009 INSP - FULL Approved Petition of appeal to the Fire Code Official: IFC1008.1.8- Egress doors shall be readily openable from the egress side without the use of a key or special knowledge or effect.

On inspection it was noted a violation that in one of the storage areas two doors were sealed shut. One was a double door and the other was a single door. There is an approved fire exit in the general location which is accessible to any peson in that area. The owner would like to seal off the doors with dry wall. Inspector recommends that this be allowed since no special hazard would exist.

DECISION OF THE FIRE CODE OFFICIAL: Approved by Chief Dan Uthe Fire Marshal. Based on the fire code requirements I have approved the request to block the non-required exit doors. The following must be completed for the non -required exit doors.
1. The doors shall be permananently closed by covering the doors on the inside with dry wall.

2. A sign stating "this door blocked" affixed to the exterior side of the door. The sign shall consist of letters having a principal stroke of not less than 0.75 inch wide and at least 6 inches high on a contrasting background.

The work shall be completed by 11/13/2009. Please contact inspector Siwarski for an inspection upon completion of the work.
