These shall be repaired with approved materials. This letter is to inform you that abatement of these Tucson Fire Code violations must be completed by August 28, 2009. A re-inspection shall be conducted at that time to ensure compliance. |

03/06/2009 | INSP - FULL | Violation | On 3-5-09, a fire prevention inspection was conducted at 5151 East Broadway Blvd, in Tucson Arizona. IN attendance was Bob Benefield, building engineer. The following Tucson Fire Code Violation(s) was noted: 1). Currently there are many penetrations to the rated walls in the mechanical rooms. These are in violation of the International Fire Code 2006 edition, sections 703.1, 703.1.1 and 703,1.2, which states: 703.1 Maintenance. The required fire-resistance rating of fire-resistance-rated construction (including walls, firestops, shaft enclosures, partitions, smoke barriers, floors, fire-resistive coatings and sprayed fire-resistant materials applied to structural members and fire-resistant joint systems) shall be maintained. Such elements shall be properly repaired, restored or replaced when damaged, altered, breached or penetrated. Openings made therein for the passage of pipes, electrical conduit, wires, ducts, air transfer openings and holes made for any reason shall be protected with approved methods capable of resisting the passage of smoke and fire. Openings through fire-resistance-rated assemblies shall be protected by self- or automatic-closing doors of approved construction meeting the fire protection requirements for the assembly. 703.1.1 Fireblocking and draftstopping. Required fireblocking and draftstopping in combustible concealed spaces shall be maintained to provide continuity and integrity of the construction. 703.1.2 Smoke barriers. Required smoke barriers shall be maintained to prevent the passage of smoke and all openings protected with approved smoke barrier doors or smoke dampers Before abatement of these penetrations is to begin, the following is required: A). Approved contractor must inform TFD, Inspector Griffin BEFORE work. B). Approved contractor must submit product information before work to be done. These penetrations are in, but not limited to; 16th, 15th , 12th, 11th 10th, 9th, 8th, 7th, 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd 2nd and 1st floor mechanical rooms. 2). 3 separate annual reports must be submitted in May (month of last report). Fire sprinkler inspection report Fire alarm test report Fire pump test report. 3). Fire drill is required to be conducted. Date shall be determined by 3-26-09. IFC 404.1 4). Extinguishers shall be mounted in the following areas. Elevator room and generator room. IFC 901.6 Currently these extinguishers are not mounted. 5). Emergency evacuation plan must be updated. TFD has a current copy of plan and will enclose this copy with report. EACH tenant shall receive a copy of this report. IFC 404.4 Updated copy a shall be furnished to TFD. 6). Currently on the majority of the floor the ceiling tiles are missing. These ceiling tiles are part of the fire protection system, they are required to be re installed, or appeal must be submitted to Deputy Fire Chief Dan Uthe. IFC 703.1 |
