Portable fire extinguishers shall be installed in the following locations: 3. In areas where flammable or combustible liquids are stored, used or dispensed. * 5. Where required by the sections indicated in Table 906.1.** TFC 906.2 - General requirements. Portable fire extinguishers shall be selected, installed and maintained in accordance with this section and NFPA 10. (Professional maintenance yearly, manual inspection monthly, affix a tag to the extinguisher with records of these activities.) _____ Have all extinguishers professionally maintained and manually inspected every 30 days thereafter with records of these activities indicated on an affixed tag. TFC 906.3 - Size and distribution. For occupancies that involve primarily Class A fire hazards, the minimum sizes and distribution shall comply with Table 906.3(1).* Fire extinguishers for occupancies involving flammable or combustible liquids with depths of less than or equal to 0.25-inch shall be selected and placed in accordance with Table 906.3(2)***. *** Extra High Hazard = 40B, >30'. (due to the limited area of use, you are allowed to install a 20B within 30' of adhesive mixing, dispensing and spraying operations) _____ Provide a 20B extinguisher within 30' of adhesive mixing, dispensing and spraying operations, mounted in an approved manner. (below) TFC 906.5 - Conspicuous location. Portable fire extinguishers shall be located in conspicuous locations where they will be readily accessible and immediately available for use. These locations shall be along normal paths of travel, unless the fire code official determines that the hazard posed indicates the need for placement away from normal paths of travel. TFC 906.6 - Unobstructed and unobscured. Portable fire extinguishers shall not be obstructed or obscured from view. In rooms or areas in which visual obstruction cannot be completely avoided, means shall be provided to indicate the locations of extinguishers. TFC 906.7 - Hangers and brackets. Hand-held portable fire extinguishers, not housed in cabinets, shall be installed on the hangers or brackets supplied. Hangers or brackets shall be securely anchored to the mounting surface in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions. TFC 906.9 - Height above floor. Portable fire extinguishers having a gross weight not exceeding 40 shall be installed so that its top is not more than 5 feet above the floor. Hand-held portable fire extinguishers having a gross weight exceeding 40 pounds shall be installed so that its top is not more than 3.5 feet above the floor. The clearance between the floor and the bottom of installed hand-held extinguishers shall not be less than 4 inches. ** From Table 906.1 - Additional Required Portable Fire Extinguishers Woodworking facilities - 1904.2 - Portable fire extinguishers and hose. - Portable fire extinguishers... shall be provided within 50 feet of travel distance to any machine producing shavings or sawdust. _____ Provide a 2A extinguisher for woodshop mounted in an approved manner (above). |
