04/21/2008 | INSP - FULL | Correction Required | The Tucson Fire Department has conducted a fire safety inspection at the above stated business . Below is a list of violations that shall be corrected to provide compliance with the applicable codes, regulations and ordinances. Compliance is required by the 2006 International Fire Code (with modifications). ___1. PROBLEM: Double keyed lock on main front exit without sign. TFC REFERENCE:2.2. A readily visible durable sign is posted on the egress side on or adjacent to the door stating: THIS DOOR TO REMAIN UNLOCKED WHEN BUILDING IS OCCUPIED. The sign shall be in letters 1 inch (25 mm) high on a contrasting background, REQUIRED CORRECTION: Above indicated sign must be above doors. ___2. PROBLEM: Holes in three drop ceiling panels. TFC REFERENCE: 703.1 Maintenance. The required fire-resistance rating of fire-resistance-rated construction (including walls, firestops, shaft enclosures, partitions, smoke barriers, floors, fire-resistive coatings and sprayed fire-resistant materials applied to structural members and fire-resistant joint systems) shall be maintained. Such elements shall be properly repaired, restored or replaced when damaged, altered, breached or penetrated. Openings made therein for the passage of pipes, electrical conduit, wires, ducts, air transfer openings and holes made for any reason shall be protected with approved methods capable of resisting the passage of smoke and fire. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Replace ceiling tiles exhibiting holes. ___3. PROBLEM: Caps missing from hood system extinguishing nozzles. TFC REFERENCE: 901.6 Inspection, testing and maintenance. Fire detection, alarm and extinguishing systems shall be maintained in an operative condition at all times, and shall be replaced or repaired where defective. AND NFPA 17A, 4.3.1.5: All discharge nozzles shall be provided with caps or other suitable devices to prevent the entrance of grease vapors, moisture or other foreign materials into the piping. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have caps placed on nozzle tips to protect from grease and debris build up. ___4. PROBLEM: When employee was questioned regarding manual pull station use and location he was unaware of location of manual pull station. TFC REFERENCE: 406.2 Frequency. Employees shall receive training in the contents of fire safety and evacuation plans and their duties as part of new employee orientation and at least annually thereafter. Records shall be kept and made available to the fire code official upon request. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have employees trained in use of emergency equipment and keep record of training on premises. ___5. PROBLEM: Class K fire extinguisher not readily visible. TFC REFERENCE: 906.5 Conspicuous location. Portable fire extinguishers shall be located in conspicuous locations where they will be readily accessible and immediately available for use. These locations shall be along normal paths of travel, unless the fire code official determines that the hazard posed indicates the need for placement away from normal paths of travel. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have class K extinguisher moved to a more conspicuous location (within 30 feet of cooking equipment). ___6. PROBLEM: Test button on emergency light unit does not turn lights on. When unit is plugged in manual switches do not turn lights on. TFC REFERENCE: 901.6 Inspection, testing and maintenance. Fire detection, alarm and extinguishing systems shall be maintained in an operative condition at all times, and shall be replaced or repaired where defective. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have qualified individual repair emergency lighting unit. ___7. PROBLEM: T.V. in store room plugged into extension cord. TFC REFERENCE: 605.5 Extension cords. Extension cords and flexible cords shall not be a substitute for permanent wiring. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Plug television directly into outlet or approved GFI power strip. ___8. PROBLEM: Power strip near ice machine not properly secured. Power strip is hanging by plugs. TFC REFERENCE: 605.4.3 Installation. Relocatable power tap cords shall not extend through walls, ceilings, floors, under doors or floor coverings, or be subject to environmental or physical damage. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Secure power strip so that it is not hanging by power cords. ___9. PROBLEM: Power strip by ice machine is plugged into an extension cord. TFC REFERENCE: 605.4.2 Power supply. Relocatable power taps shall be directly connected to a permanently installed receptacle. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Power strip shall be plugged directly into an outlet. ___10. PROBLEM: Power strip cord extends through ceiling tile. TFC REFERENCE: 605.4.3 Installation. Relocatable power tap cords shall not extend through walls, ceilings, floors, under doors or floor coverings, or be subject to environmental or physical damage. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Power strip cord shall not extend through ceiling tile. ___11. PROBLEM: Compressed gas cylinders by ice machine are not secured. TFC REFERENCE: 3003.5.3 Securing compressed gas containers, cylinders and tanks. Compressed gas containers, cylinders and tanks shall be secured to prevent falling caused by contact, vibration or seismic activity. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Do not extend power strip cord through ceiling.
