04/04/2008 | INSP - LIFE SAFETY | Approved | On 03-28-08, I responded to a complaint of overcrowding at the Gaslight theater, 7010 E. Broadway. I spoke with Manager Nancy Laviola and stated my concerns as a Fire Inspector. The occupant load is 280, and is posted as such. Manager Laviola stated that the shows held at the theater are never sold past 244 patrons, and that the policy is enforced. The seating setup was WELL under capacity, with a floor plan copy in the file. We were invited to witness seating, which starts at 6:15 p.m., for a 7:00 show. I re-iterated the need to keep exits free and clear, and manager Laviola assured me that was the case, and staff is available to assist any patron who needs assistance. All exits were clear and easy to find and up to code. Manager Laviola stated that this is a common complaint, and research shows 2 such complaints within the last two years addressing the same concern, along with a full inspection last year (in Permits Plus), all instances show the theater was never over capacity. No violations encountered, and a full Inspection is forthcoming, due 5/08. A letter will be sent to the complaintant with my findings. |
