Below is a list of violations that shall be corrected to provide compliance with the applicable codes, regulations and ordinances. Compliance is required by the 2006 International Fire Code (with modifications). ___1. PROBLEM: Lights in exit sign are out in sign above the main office exit and one exit leading out of laundry room. TFC REFERENCE: 1011.2 Illumination. Exit signs shall be internally or externally illuminated. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have lighted exit signs repaired. ___2. PROBLEM: Extension cord used for fish tank and under desk in office. TFC REFERENCE: 605.5 Extension cords. Extension cords and flexible cords shall not be a substitute for permanent wiring. Extension cords and flexible cords shall not be affixed to structures, extended through walls, ceilings or floors, or under doors or floor coverings, nor shall such cords be subject to environmental damage or physical impact. Extension cords shall be used only with portable appliances. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Plug appliances directly into wall receptacle or into power strip. ___3. PROBLEM: Lint buildup behind dryers. TFC REFERENCE: Section 316.2 Clothes dryers.(cot mod) Clothes dryers shall be frequently cleaned to maintain the lint trap and mechanical and heating components free from excessive accumulations of lint. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Keep area and room behind dryers free of lint builup. Have it cleaned regularly. ___4. PROBLEM: Unsecured compressed gas cylinder in storage closet. TFC REFERENCE: 3003.5.3 Securing compressed gas containers, cylinders and tanks. Compressed gas containers, cylinders and tanks shall be secured to prevent falling caused by contact, vibration or seismic activity. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Secure compressed gas cylinders from falling over. ___5. PROBLEM: Electric panels in boiler room are missing doors and switch blanks. TFC REFERENCE: 605.6 Unapproved conditions. Open junction boxes and open-wiring splices shall be prohibited. Approved covers shall be provided for all switch and electrical outlet boxes. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have blanks inserted in missing switch spaces and have doors placed on electrical panels missing doors. ___6. PROBLEM: Boiler room wall is cut away behind dryer and various holes in wall exist. This compromises the fire rated construction and encourages smoke and flame spread in the event of a fire. TFC REFERENCE: 703.1 Maintenance. The required fire-resistance rating of fire-resistance-rated construction (including walls, firestops, shaft enclosures, partitions, smoke barriers, floors, fire-resistive coatings and sprayed fire-resistant materials applied to structural members and fire-resistant joint systems) shall be maintained. Such elements shall be properly repaired, restored or replaced when damaged, altered, breached or penetrated. Openings made therein for the passage of pipes, electrical conduit, wires, ducts, air transfer openings and holes made for any reason shall be protected with approved methods capable of resisting the passage of smoke and fire. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have holes and breaches in walls repaired with proper fire rated materials. ___7. PROBLEM: Electrical outlet missing cover plate in boiler room. TFC REFERENCE: 605.6 Unapproved conditions. Open junction boxes and open-wiring splices shall be prohibited. Approved covers shall be provided for all switch and electrical outlet boxes. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have electrical outlet cover placed on outlet in boiler room. ___8. PROBLEM: Electrical plug passing through wall in boiler room. TFC REFERENCE: 605.5 Extension cords. Extension cords and flexible cords shall not be a substitute for permanent wiring. Extension cords and flexible cords shall not be affixed to structures, extended through walls, ceilings or floors, or under doors or floor coverings, nor shall such cords be subject to environmental damage or physical impact. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Do not pass plugs through walls. ___9. PROBLEM: Wooden pallets stacked along side of apartment building in pool equipment area. TFC REFERENCE: 304.1.1 Waste material. Accumulations of wastepaper, wood, hay, straw, weeds, litter or combustible or flammable waste or rubbish of any type shall not be permitted to remain on a roof or in any court, yard, vacant lot, alley, parking lot, open space, or beneath a grandstand, bleacher, pier, wharf, manufactured home, recreational vehicle or other similar structure.
