| 02/07/2008 | INSP - FULL | Correction Required | The Tucson Fire Department has conducted a fire safety inspection at the above stated business . Below is a list of violations that shall be corrected to provide compliance with the applicable codes, regulations and ordinances. Compliance is required by the 2006 International Fire Code (with modifications). ___1. PROBLEM: Exit egress from business office through manufacturing facility. TFC REFERENCE: 1014.2 Egress through intervening spaces. Egress through intervening spaces shall comply with this section. 1. Egress from a room or space shall not pass through adjoining or intervening rooms or areas, except where such adjoining rooms or areas are accessory to the area served, are not a high-hazard occupancy and provide a discernible path of egress travel to an exit. Exception: Means of egress are not prohibited through adjoining or intervening rooms or spaces in a Group H, S or F occupancy when the adjoining or intervening rooms or spaces are the same or a lesser hazard occupancy group. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Remove exit sign leading into manufacturing area from business office. ___2. PROBLEM: Covered exit sign over front office main entrance (which is locked during certain times) with no other exit sign pointing to reliable exit. TFC REFERENCE: 1028.4 Exit signs. Exit signs shall be installed and maintained in accordance with Section 1011. Decorations, furnishings, equipment or adjacent signage that impairs the visibility of exit signs, creates confusion or prevents identification of the exit shall not be allowed. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Install lighted (externally or internally) exit sign indicating direction to reliable exit. ___3. PROBLEM: Annual sprinkler test report not available. TFC REFERENCE: 901.6.2 Records. Records of all system inspections, tests and maintenance required by the referenced standards shall be maintained on the premises for a minimum of three years and shall be copied to the fire code official upon request. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Keep a file of sprinkler system maintenance and testing records on the premises for 3 years and produce them for fire inspector upon request. ___4. PROBLEM: Excessive accumulation of sawdust and cobwebs on walls, rafters and on frame of conveyer belt, vents, pipes and on some machinery. TFC REFERENCE:1303.2 Housekeeping. Accumulation of combustible dust shall be kept to a minimum in the interior of buildings. Accumulated combustible dust shall be collected by vacuum cleaning or other means that will not place combustible dust into suspension in air. Forced air or similar methods shall not be used to remove dust from surfaces. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Walls, rafters, machines etc. shall be cleaned regularly so as to prevent the accumulation of cobwebs and dust. ___5.PROBLEM: Portable heating unit has natural gas line as its fuel source. TFC REFERENCE:1403.1 Listed. Temporary heating devices shall be listed and labeled in accordance with the International Mechanical Code or the International Fuel Gas Code. Installation, maintenance and use of temporary heating devices shall be in accordance with the terms of the listing. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have contracter verify gas line is installed correctly and is up to proper code standards ___6. PROBLEM: Fire extinguisher in upper storage room and at outside lumber storage site needs to be mounted on a bracket. TFC REFERENCE: 906.7 Hangers and brackets. Hand-held portable fire extinguishers, not housed in cabinets, shall be installed on the hangers or brackets supplied. Hangers or brackets shall be securely anchored to the mounting surface in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation instructions. REQUIRED CORECTION: Portable fire extinguisher in upper storage room and at outside lumber storage shall be mounted on a bracket. ___7. PROBLEM: Buckets collecting wood dust at outside lumbar area are overflowing with excess wood dust. TFC REFERENCE: 3606.5.8 Collection of chips, turnings and fines. Chips, turnings and other fine magnesium scrap shall be collected from the pans or spaces under machines and from other places where they collect at least once each working day. Such material shall be placed in a covered, vented steel container and removed to an approved location.turnings and other fine magnesium scrap shall be collected. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Code requires emptying buckets once a day. Strongly recommend emptying buckets twice a day to prevent accumulation of wood dust on ground in outside lumber area. ___8. PROBLEM: Open flame rag burning devices are too close to structures and flammable liquid containers. TFC REFERENCE: 307.4 Location. The location for open burning shall not be less than 50 feet (15 240 mm) from any structure, and provisions shall be made to prevent the fire from spreading to within 50 feet (15 240 mm) of any structure. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Move rag burners 50 feet rom structures. The Tucson Fire Department is committed to the protection of your property and your life safety.
