This inspector strongly recommended to manager that pull stations be moved per current code for employee safety.
12/17/2007 VIOL - FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS Correction Required The Tucson Fire Department has conducted a hood suppression system inspection at the above stated business . Below is a list of violations that shall be corrected to provide compliance with the applicable codes, regulations and ordinances. Compliance is required by the 2006 International Fire Code (with modifications).

___1. PROBLEM: Manual activation pull stations are too close to cooking appliances.
TFC REFERENCE: 904.11.1 Manual system operation. A manual actuation device shall be located at or near a means of egress from the cooking area a minimum of 10 feet (3048 mm) and a maximumof
20 feet (6096 mm) from the kitchen exhaust system.
The manual actuation device shall be installed not more than
48 inches (1200 mm) nor less than 42 inches (1067 mm)
above the floor and shall clearly identify the hazard protected.
The manual actuation shall require a maximum force
of 40 pounds (178 N) and a maximum movement of 14
inches (356 mm) to actuate the fire suppression system.
REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have qualified individual install pull stations 10 to 20 feet from cooking appliances along a path of egress.

___2. PROBLEM: Red cap missing from nozzle tip on hood sytem over fryer. These caps are necessary to keep nozzles free of grease buildup and obstructions.
TFC REFERENCE: 901.6 Inspection, testing and maintenance. Fire detection, alarm and extinguishing systems shall be maintained in an
operative condition at all times, and shall be replaced or
repaired where defective. AND: NFPA 17A, 4.3.1.5: All discharge nozzles shall be provided with caps or other suitable devices to prevent the entrance of grease vapors, moisture or other foreign materials into the piping.
REQUIRED CORRECTION: Nozzle tips on hood suppression system shall be free of obstructions and capped at all times.

___3. PROBLEM: Records of hood system repair and maintenance not on premises.
TFC REFERENCE: 901.6.2 Records. Records of all system inspections, tests and maintenance required by the referenced standards shall be maintained on the premises for a minimum of three years and shall be copied to the fire code official upon request.
REQUIRED CORRECTION: A copy of the maintenance and service records of the suppression hood system shall be available for viewing by the fire code official on the premises.

___4. PROBLEM: Class K fire extinguisher is not readily visible.
TFC REFERENCE: 906.5 Conspicuous location. Portable fire extinguishers shall be located in conspicuous locations where they will be readily accessible and immediately available for use. These locations shall be along normal paths of travel, unless the fire code official determines that the hazard posed indicates the need for
placement away from normal paths of travel. AND: 904.11.5 Portable fire extinguishers for commercial cooking equipment. Portable fire extinguishers shall be provided within a 30-foot (9144 mm) travel distance of commercial-type cooking equipment. Cooking equipment
involving vegetable or animal oils and fats shall be protected
by a Class K rated portable extinguisher.
REQUIRED CORECTION: Class K fire extinguisher needs to be relocated to a readily visible location within 30 feet of cooking appliance.
