Spoke with manager who said this McDonald's was sold and now have new owners and management. Discussed inspection with manager and, as with other McDonald's in town, they will be given extra time to move pull stations to a remote location. However will give only 2 weeks to correct other problems and will need evidence in 2 weeks of efforts to schedule pull station relocation with qualified professional.
12/04/2007 VIOL - FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS Correction Required The Tucson Fire Department has conducted a hood suppression system inspection at the above stated business . Below is a list of violations that shall be corrected to provide compliance with the applicable codes, regulations and ordinances. Compliance is required by the 2006 International Fire Code (with modifications).

___1. PROBLEM: Manual activation pull stations too close to cooking appliances.
TFC REFERENCE: 904.11.1 Manual system operation. A manual actuation device shall be located at or near a means of egress from the cooking area a minimum of 10 feet (3048 mm) and a maximumof
20 feet (6096 mm) from the kitchen exhaust system.
The manual actuation device shall be installed not more than
48 inches (1200 mm) nor less than 42 inches (1067 mm)
above the floor and shall clearly identify the hazard protected.
The manual actuation shall require a maximum force
of 40 pounds (178 N) and a maximum movement of 14
inches (356 mm) to actuate the fire suppression system.
REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have required manual pull stations installed no less than 10 feet from cooking appliance and no more than 20 feet.

___2. PROBLEM: Service records not readily available for inspection.
TFC REFERENCE: 901.6.2 Records. Records of all system inspections, tests and maintenance required by the referenced standards shall be maintained on the premises for a minimum of three years and shall be copied to the fire code official upon request.
REQUIRED CORRECTION: All inspection, repair and maintenance of hood suppression system records shall be kept upon the premises and produced upon request.

___3. PROBLEM: Caps missing from nozzles These caps are necessary to keep nozzles from becoming plugged by grease build up.
TFC REFERENCE: 901.6 Inspection, testing and maintenance. Fire detection, alarm and extinguishing systems shall be maintained in an
operative condition at all times, and shall be replaced or
repaired where defective. Nonrequired fire protection systems
and equipment shall be inspected, tested and maintained or
removed. NFPA 17A 4.3.1.5: All discharge nozzles shall be provided with caps or other suitable devices to prevent the entrance of grease vapors, moisture or other foreign materials into the piping.
REQUIRED CORRECTION: Nozzle tips on suppression hood shall be free of obstruction and shall be capped.

___4. PROBLEM: Class K portable extinguisher not readily visible.
TFC REFERENCE: 906.5 Conspicuous location. Portable fire extinguishers shall be located in conspicuous locations where they will be readily accessible and immediately available for use. 904.11.5 Portable fire extinguishers for commercial cooking equipment. Portable fire extinguishers shall be
provided within a 30-foot (9144 mm) travel distance of
commercial-type cooking equipment. Cooking equipment
involving vegetable or animal oils and fats shall be protected
by a Class K rated portable extinguisher.
REQUIRED CORRECTION: Place class K portable fire extinguisher in a more visible location within required distance.

___5. PROBLEM: nozzle turned and aimed away from grill causing ineffective coverage of griddle in the advent of a fire.
TFC REFERENCE: 901.6 Inspection, testing and maintenance. Fire detection, alarm and extinguishing systems shall be maintained in an
operative condition at all times, and shall be replaced or
repaired where defective.
REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have qualified individual redirect nozzle to proper position for proper coverage.
