Steve Connelly
Chief Engineer
Four Points by Sheraton
1900 E. Speedway
Tucson, AZ 85719

Dear Mr. Connely,

On 11-9-07, a fire prevention inspection was conducted at the high-rise building at 1900 E. Speedway Tucson, AZ.

The following Tucson Fire Code Violation(s) was noted:

1). The sprinkler head above the dumpster at the south of the building is no longer connected to its hangar. This is a violation of IFC 901.6:

901.6 Inspection, testing and maintenance. Fire detection,
alarm and extinguishing systems shall be maintained in an
operative condition at all times, and shall be replaced or
repaired where defective. Nonrequired fire protection systems
and equipment shall be inspected, tested and maintained or
removed.

Please repair aforementioned sprinkler head.

2). Your compressed gas cylinders are unsecured. This is a violation of IFC 3003.5:

3003.5 Security. Compressed gas containers, cylinders, tanks and systems shall be secured against accidental dislodgement and against access by unauthorized personnel in accordance with Sections 3003.5.1 through 3003.5.3.

Please secure your gas cylinders.

3). Three sprinkler heads in the front desk area are above the drop ceiling. This is a violation of IFC 901.6:

901.6 Inspection, testing and maintenance. Fire detection,
alarm and extinguishing systems shall be maintained in an
operative condition at all times, and shall be replaced or
repaired where defective. Nonrequired fire protection systems
and equipment shall be inspected, tested and maintained or
removed.

Please repair aforementioned sprinkler heads.

4). In the front desk area there is a hole drop ceiling that is missing the vent cover and associated duct to connect it to the HVAC system. This is a violation of IFC 703.1:

703.1 Maintenance. The required fire-resistance rating of fire-resistance-rated construction (including walls, firestops, shaft enclosures, partitions, smoke barriers, floors, fire-resistive coatings and sprayed fire-resistant materials applied to structural members and fire-resistant joint systems) shall be maintained. Such elements shall be properly repaired, restored or replaced when damaged, altered, breached or penetrated. Openings made therein for the passage of pipes, electrical conduit, wires, ducts, air transfer openings and holes made for any reason shall be protected with approved methods capable of
resisting the passage of smoke and fire. Openings through fire-resistance-rated assemblies shall be protected by self- or automatic-closing doors of approved construction meeting the fire protection requirements for the assembly.

Please install vent cover and associated duct to connect it to the HVAC system.

This letter is to inform you that abatement of these Tucson Fire Code violations must be completed by 11-23-07.

A re-inspection shall be conducted at that time to ensure compliance.

If you have questions, or if I may be of any assistance please call me at 791-4502 extension 127.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Tom Sisterman
