605.5 Extension cords. Extension cords and flexible cords shall not be a substitute for permanent wiring. Extension cords and flexible cords shall not be affixed to structures, extended through walls, ceilings or floors, or under doors or floor coverings, nor shall such cords be subject to environmental damage or physical impact. Extension cords shall be used only with portable appliances.

Please replace extension cords with approved wiring.


This letter is to inform you that abatement of these Tucson Fire Code violations must be completed by 2-21-08.

The following Tucson Fire Code Violation(s) was noted:

1). In the retail area there are missing ceiling tiles. This is a violation of IFC 703.1:

703.1 Maintenance. The required fire-resistance rating of fire-resistance-rated construction (including walls, firestops, shaft enclosures, partitions, smoke barriers, floors, fire-resistive coatings and sprayed fire-resistant materials applied to structural members and fire-resistant joint systems) shall be maintained. Such elements shall be properly repaired, restored or replaced when damaged, altered, breached or penetrated. Openings made therein for the passage of pipes, electrical conduit, wires, ducts, air transfer openings and holes made for any reason shall be protected with approved methods capable of
resisting the passage of smoke and fire. Openings through fire-resistance-rated assemblies shall be protected by self- or automatic-closing doors of approved construction meeting the fire protection requirements for the assembly.

Please replace missing ceiling tiles.

6). Your compressed gas cylinders are unsecured. This is a violation of IFC 3003.5:

3003.5 Security. Compressed gas containers, cylinders, tanks and systems shall be secured against accidental dislodgement and against access by unauthorized personnel in accordance with Sections 3003.5.1 through 3003.5.3.

Please secure your gas cylinders.

7). In the rear of your business you have unmarked waste oil containers. This is a violation of IFC 2703.5.1:

2703.5.1 Markings. Individual containers, cartons or packages shall be conspicuously marked or labeled in an approved manner. Rooms or cabinets containing compressed gases shall be conspicuously labeled: COMPRESSED GAS.

Please label unmarked containers as "WASTE OIL" in capital block letters.

2). The yearly service of your fire extinguisher is overdue. This is a violation of IFC 901.6:

901.6 Inspection, testing and maintenance. Fire detection, alarm and extinguishing systems shall be maintained in an operative condition at all times, and shall be replaced or repaired where defective. Nonrequired fire protection systems and equipment shall be inspected, tested and maintained or removed.

Please obtain required yearly service for your fire extinguisher.

3). There are batteries stored without proper spill containment precautions. This is a violation of IFC 608.5:

608.5 Spill control and neutralization. An approved method and materials for the control and neutralization of a spill of electrolyte shall be provided in areas containing lead-acid, nickel-cadmium or other types of batteries with free-flowing liquid electrolyte. For purposes of this paragraph, a "spill" is defined as any unintentional release of electrolyte.

Please provide proper spill containment for your batteries.

4). Cigarette butts were found in the garage. This is a violation of IFC 310.2:

310.2 Prohibited areas. Smoking shall be prohibited where conditions are such as to make smoking a hazard, and in spaces where flammable or combustible materials are stored or handled.

Please enforce no smoking regulations in all areas of your occupancy.

5). There are unsecured oil containers on the north side of your property. This is a violation of IFC 304.1.1:

304.1.1 Waste material. Accumulations of wastepaper, wood, hay, straw, weeds, litter or combustible or flammable waste or rubbish of any type shall not be permitted to remain on a roof or in any court, yard, vacant lot, alley, parking lot, open space, or beneath a grandstand, bleacher, pier, wharf, manufactured home, recreational vehicle or other similar structure.

Please remove oil containers from your lot.
