sliding or vertical security grilles are permitted at the main exit
and shall be openable from the inside without the use of a key or
special knowledge or effort during periods that the space is occupied. The grilles shall remain secured in the full-open position
during the period of occupancy by the general public. Where
two or more means of egress are required, not more than one-half of the exits or exit access doorways shall be equipped with horizontal sliding or vertical security grilles. 3 Security Grills on the SE, NE, and NW corners of the building were key locked and the exits were not accessible while the building was occupied. Only one exit was open while some businesses operated on all three levels of building.
12/29/2006 INSP - FULL Violation 1008.1.8 Door operations. Except as specifically permitted by this section egress doors shall be readily openable from the egress side without the use of a key or special knowledge or effort. The only available exit was held open with a slide bolt into the concrete walkway. If this was undone, the door would swing shut and building occupants without a key would be trapped in the courtyard ; unable to self-exit to a public way.
12/29/2006 INSP - FULL Correction Required Exits were open for the following day of business. A full inspection will be scheduled with this building owner within the next two weeks. Property Management is immediately changing SW exit locking mechanism to a thumblatch bolt or panic hardware.
12/29/2006 INSP - FULL Closed Complaint is closed. Immediate exiting hazard has been ebated.
