02/15/2006 | COMPL - REINSPECTION | Violation | On 10-28-05, a complaint was filed with The Tucson Fire Department in regards to the occupants of the building in not hearing the audible alarms. A letter explaining the code and corrections was sent to you on 11-22-06. Below is a portion of the letter. The occupants are concerned that the fire alarm could not be heard on the following areas on the building. They are: 15th floor, 16th, 10th, and 9th. Fire alarms shall be of the following decibels as per IFC 907.10.2 Which states: 907.10.2 Audible alarms. Audible alarm notification appliances shall be provided and sound a distinctive sound that is not to be used for any purpose other than that of a fire alarm. The audible alarm notification appliances shall provide a sound pressure level of 15 decibels (dBA) above the average ambient sound level or 5 dBA above the maximum sound level having a duration of at least 60 seconds, whichever is greater, in every occupied space within the building. The minimum sound pressure levels shall be….. 60 dBA in other occupancies The decibels of fire alarm in offices shall be 60 dBA minimum in all offices or 15 dBA average ambient sounds. In addition; no strobes are on the 14th floor, 15th, 16th, and 17th. One of the below must be completed by 3-15-06. 1). Letter from approved fire alarm contractor indicating that fire alarm audible measurements meets all sound requirements of NFPA 72. 2). Allow the Tucson Fire Department to take sound measurements of all affecting suites. All suites must meet NFPA sound requirements, before 3-15-06. |
