03/04/2025 COT - ENFC - Code Enforcement - Initial In Violation Call was placed to 911 for Smoke coming out of the building. TFD arrived and breached the approximately 8‘ x 10‘ sliding door next to restaurant, but found no fire inside the suite. Smoke was found coming out of the light fixtures, and TFD breached the pillar facade in front of the suite and found fire inside this part of the structure. According to TFD, it appears someone stuffed burning materials inside of a gutter like drain pipe coming out of the pillar structure. The fire destroyed the pipe and burned the structural members of the pillar enclosure. Plywood and stucco was damaged by the breach. TFD indicated the fire did not spread beyond this enclosure. Security guard on scene states multiple calls were placed to the owner and he could not be reached. I did call the number for the owner and the manager two times, but no answer so I left messages. City contractor called to secure the unit. Contractor did arrive and board the sliding door opening as well as the opening into the pillar to prevent homeless from entering those spaces and causing more damage to the structure. Emergency conditions are abated, close case. -VM
