08/22/2019 | INSP - INITIAL CODE ENFORCMENT | GOODMAN | Approved | RECEIVED CALL FROM CITY COMM. FOR A SPACE IN THE TUCSON MALL NEAR THE SHOE PALACE OR SACCA. UPON ARRIVAL I MET WITH TFD CAPTAIN WHO TOOK ME DOWN INTO THE FIRST FLOOR OR BASEMENT AREA. TIME WAS APPROX 9:50 AND SECURITY HAD SHUT THE MALL DOWN BECAUSE THE ALARM SYSTEM HAD GONE OFF THRU OUT THE MALL. PEOPLE WERE ASKED TO EXIT THE MALL. A VERY SMALL FIRE TOOK PLACE IN UNIT #110. I MET WITH REPRESENTATIVE KATE MARQUEZ WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE SPACE HAD RECENTLY ADDED OR REMODELED FOR A EVENT CENTER, AND THEY JUST RECEIVED THEIR C OF O. THE CONTRACTOR WAS CULP CONSTRUCTION AND THE PERMIT # TI8CMO7225. CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS FROM A FLOOR FAN/ FLOOR DRIER. THAT HAD STARTED ON FIRE. FAN WAS SITTING IN A CORNER OF ONE OF THE ROOMS, IT WAS NOT PLUGGED INTO TO ANY OUTLET, THERE WAS NO OUTLET IN THE AREA, AND THE CORD TO THE DRYER WAS STILL WRAPPED UP ON THE MACHINE. I LOOKED INSIDE THE WALL THERE WAS NO ELECTRICAL WIRING IN THE WALL WHERE THE FAN SAT. THE SPRINKLER SYSTEM DID GO OFF AND PUT THE FIRE OUT QUICKLY. C/E FOUND ONLY MINOR FIRE DAMAGE TO THE DRYWALL, A AREA OF 3 FT X 4 FT. THERE IS ALSO POSSIBLE WATER DAMAGE TO THE DRYWALL. I FEEL INSURANCE, OWNERS AND CONTRACTOR WILL NEED TO DECIDE IF WATER DAMAGE WAS ENOUGH TO REPLACE ANY DRYWALL. I DID INFORM KATE MARQUEZ THAT DRY WALL REPAIRS COULD PROBABLY BE COMPLETED UNDER PERMIT #T18DMO7225, THAT SHE SHOULD CALL THE CONTRACTOR TO TAKE A LOOK. >CUTLER FIRE PROTECTION WAS ON SITE TO REPLACE THE DAMAGED SPRINKLER HEAD. > TFD ON SITE TO HELP RESTORE WATER TO THE SPRINKLER SYSTEM ALONG WITH MALL MAINTANENCE. >NO ELECTRICAL DAMAGE. > MOSTLY WATER DAMAGE ON THE CONCRETE FLOOR. WATER BEING EXTRACTED USING MALL MACHINERY. NO NOV WAS ISSUED DUE TO OPEN PERMIT. I WOULD NOT REQUIRE DRYWALL TO BE REMOVED FOR WET DRYWALL. DRWALL REMAINED SECURE IN PLACE, DID NOT APPEAR COMPRIMISED. COMPLIANCE / CLOSE CASE. |
