10/12/2014 INSP - INITIAL CODE ENFORCMENT GOODMAN Approved INSPECTION REPORT: VISITED SITE, MET WITH TFD CAPTAIN AND INVESTIGATOR WAYNE CUMMINGS, CAPTAINS RESPONSE TO INVESTIGATOR WAS THAT TFD WAS GOING TO CALL OFF THE CODE ENFORCEMENT INPSECTOR BECAUSE THEY FOUND NO ELECTRICAL ISSUES RELATED TO THE STOVE FIRE, BUT CODE ENFORCEMENT ARRIVED QUICKER THAN EXPECTED. . AFTER TFD SPOKE WITH THE OCCUPANT IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE STOVE FIRE WAS ACTUALLY CAUSED BY GREASE LEFT IN A PAN AND THE FLAME LEFT ON AT THE STOVE. NEIGHBOR HELPED PUT THE FIRE OUT BY THE TIME TFD HAD ARRIVED. MY INSPECTION FOUND BURN MARKS ON THE BLOCK WALLS BEHIND THE STOVE AND TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE STOVE. MINOR FIRE DAMAGE TO THE CORNER OF THE CABINET. MINOR SMOKE DAMAGE TO THE CEILING, AND STOVE AND HOOD HAD MELTED PORTIONS TO THOSE APPLIANCES. THERE WAS NO STRUCTURAL DAMAGE. APPLIANCES CAN BE REPLACED, CABINET REPLACED WITH OUT PERMIT AND WALL AND CEILING CLEANED WITH OUT PERMIT. ** TENANT CARMEN JOHNSON HAD LEFT THE SCENE AND WAS NOT PRESENT AT THE TIME OF MY ARRIVAL BUT RETURNED LATER. I INFORMED HER OF MY FINDINGS, NO DAMAGE TO ELECTRICAL OR STRUCTURAL AND EXPLAINED I WOULD CONTACT MAINTANENCE. PRIOR TO LEAVING THE PROPERTY I CALLED AND LEFT A MESSAGE FOR MAINTANENCE PERSONEL. ** FOLLOWING DAY I DID SPEAK WITH ONCALL SUPERVISOR RICK SALDATE, INFORMED RICK OF MY FINDINGS AT THE PROPERTY. I MENTIONED FIRE AND SMOKE DAMAGE DAMAGE TO THE WALLS AND CEILING, BUT THAT THERE WAS NO ELECTRICAL OR STRUCTURAL DAMAGE, AND WOULD A NOTICE OF VIOLATION BE REQUIRED. RICK AGREED THAT A NOTICE WOULD NOT BE REQUIRED BUT ASKED THAT I FOLLOW UP WITH CATALINA PALMS MANAGER. ** 10/22/2014 CALLED AND SPOKE WITH MANAGER SUSAN INFORMED HER OF MY FINDINGS, SUSAN MENTIONED THAT TENANT WAS PUT UP IN A MOTEL FOR THE EVENING AND WAS PLACED IN A DIFFERENT APARTMENT, UNIT #8 . SUSAN ALSO MENTIONED THAT THEY HAVE ALSO STARTED THE BID PROCESS TO MAKE REPAIRS.
