RENNE MENTIONED TENANT IS APPROX. 50 YRS OF AGE WAS JUST MOVED DOWN TO UNIT #121 FROM UNIT DIRRECTLY ABOVE #221 DUE TO HEALTH PROBLEMS. FAMILY HELPED BOX AND MOVE BELONGINGS DOWN, BOXES HAVE NOT YET BEEN EMPTIED OR MOVED, REMAIN STACKED IN THE LIVING ROOM PORTION OF THE STUDIO APT. TENAT TRACEY VALENZUELA WAS TRANSPORTED TO UMC HOSPITAL. WALKED THE INTETIOR OF THE UNIT, APPEARS THAT THE FIRE WAS CONTAINED TO THE KITCHEN AREA. GAS WAS TURNED OFF AT THE STOVE DUE TO A MASTER METER GAS SYSTEM. ELECTRIC WAS TURNED OFF AT THE SUB PANEL DUE TO MINOR ELECTRICAL ISSUES. TENANT WAS COOKING ON THE STOVE, FELL ASLEEP, LEFT STOVE BURNING. MY FINDINGS ARE AS FOLOWS: >SOFFITS ABOVE THE STOVE AND KITCHEN CABINETS WERE FIRE DAMAGED, OR DAMAGED BY TFD. >DRYWALL ON THE CEILING AND WALLS WAS FIRE DAMAGED. >WIRING INSIDE THE SOFFIT AREAS APPEARED HEAT DAMAGED DUE TO THE YELLOWING AND BURN MARKS ON THE WIRE CASING. > ALL CABINETS AND DOORS FIRE DAMAGED. > REMAINDER OF THE STUDIO APT. RECEIVED HEAVY SMOKE DAMAGE. ** ALL EXTERIOR WALLS AND DIVIDING WALLS BETWEEN UNITS ARE MASONRY BLOCK WALL, NOT ALLOWING FIRE TO EXPAND TO ADJOINING UNITS. CHECKED UNITS D120 & D122, TENANTS ARE OK AND HAVE NO PROBLEMS STAYING IN UNITS, CAN ONLY SMELL THE SMOKE BUT HAVE BEEN GIVEN FANS AS A PRECAUTIONARY MESSURE. UNIT 221 REMAINS VACANT AS TENAT HAS MOVED OUT. DIVIDING WALL BETWEEN UNITS ARE MASONRY. A EMERGENGY NOTIVE TO VACATE WAS ISSUED TO THE MANAGER, UNIT WAS POSTED UNFIT TO OCCPY. MANAGEMENT BOARDED REAR KITCHEN WINDOW AND SECURITY GUARDS REMAIN AT THE UNIT UNTIL UNIT IS LOCKED BY MANAGEMENT. PERMITS ARE BEING REQUIRED AND INFO PLACED ON NOV.
12/21/2011 INSP - FOLLOW UP CODE ENFORCE MLOPEZ Approved Unit still empty, advised manager unit cant be rented till proper permits obtaind. Will monitor unit follow up 01-23-2012
