(Welding) A minimum of one portable fire extinguisher complying with Section 906 and with a minimum 2-A:20-B:C rating shall be readily accessible within 30 feet (9144 mm) of the location where hot work is performed. _____ Provide extinguishers in areas that welding is performed. TFC 2205.5 - Fire extinguishers. Approved portable fire extinguishers complying with Section 906 with a minimum rating of 2-A:20-B:C shall be provided and located such that an extinguisher is not more than 75 feet from pumps, dispensers or storage tank fill-pipe openings. Chapter 906, Portable Fire Extinguishers TFC 906.2 - General requirements. Portable fire extinguishers shall be selected, installed and maintained in accordance with this section and NFPA 10. TFC 906.3 - Size and distribution. ...Fire extinguishers for occupancies involving flammable or combustible liquids with depths of less than or equal to 0.25-inch shall be selected and placed in accordance with Table 906.3(2)**. Fire extinguishers for occupancies involving flammable or combustible liquids with a depth of greater than 0.25-inch or involving combustible metals shall be selected and placed in accordance with NFPA 10***. ** Ordinary Hazard = 10B >30' (or 20B >50') *** Chapter 6.3.2.3 - For flammable liquids hazards of appreciable depth, a Class B fire extinguisher shall be provided on the basis of at least 2 numerical units of Class B extinguishing potential per ft2 of flammable liquid surface of the largest hazard area. 6.3.2.7 - Travel distances for portable fire extinguishers shall not exceed 50 ft. 6.3.2.7.1 - Scattered or widely separated hazards shall be individually protected. ____ Provide a 2-A:20-B:C portable fire extinguisher for the garage area. TFC 906.5 - Conspicuous location. Portable fire extinguishers shall be located in conspicuous locations where they will be readily accessible and immediately available for use. These locations shall be along normal paths of travel, unless the fire code official determines that the hazard posed indicates the need for placement away from normal paths of travel. TFC 906.6 - Unobstructed and unobscured. Portable fire extinguishers shall not be obstructed or obscured from view. In rooms or areas in which visual obstruction cannot be completely avoided, means shall be provided to indicate the locations of extinguishers. TFC 906.7 - Hangers and brackets. Hand-held portable fire extinguishers, not housed in cabinets, shall be installed on the hangers or brackets supplied. Hangers or brackets shall be securely anchored to the mounting surface in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions. TFC 906.9 - Height above floor. Portable fire extinguishers having a gross weight not exceeding 40 shall be installed so that its top is not more than 5 feet above the floor. Hand-held portable fire extinguishers having a gross weight exceeding 40 pounds shall be installed so that its top is not more than 3.5 feet above the floor. The clearance between the floor and the bottom of installed hand-held extinguishers shall not be less than 4 inches. _____ Mount extinguishers in an approved manner. TFC 901.6 - Inspection, testing and maintenance. Fire detection, alarm and extinguishing systems shall be maintained in an operative condition at all times, and shall be replaced or repaired where defective. Nonrequired fire protection systems and equipment shall be inspected, tested and maintained or removed. _____ Extinguishers shall be inspected by occupant monthly and professionally serviced annually. A tag shall be affixed to the extinguisher with records of these activities. Release of substance TFC 2703.3 - Release of hazardous materials. Hazardous materials in any quantity shall not be released into a sewer, storm drain, ditch, drainage canal, creek, stream, river, lake or tidal waterway or on the ground, sidewalk, street, highway or into the atmosphere. TFC 2703.3.1.4 - Responsibility for cleanup. The person, firm or corporation responsible for an unauthorized discharge shall institute and complete all actions necessary to remedy the effects of such unauthorized discharge, whether sudden or gradual, at no cost to the jurisdiction. When deemed necessary by the fire code official, cleanup may be initiated by the fire department or by an authorized individual or firm. Costs associated with such cleanup shall be borne by the owner, operator or other person responsible for the unauthorized discharge. _____ Clean-up fluids from back pad and soil next to it. TFC 2703.4 - Material Safety Data Sheets. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) shall be readily available on the premises for hazardous materials regulated by this chapter. When a hazardous substance is developed in a laboratory, available information shall be documented. Exception: Designated hazardous waste. _____ Provide MSDS and training. TFC 2703.5 - Hazard identification signs. Unless otherwise exempted by the fire code official, visible hazard identification signs as specified in NFPA 704 for the specific material contained shall be placed on stationary containers and above-ground tanks and at entrances to locations where hazardous materials are stored, dispensed, used or handled in quantities requiring a permit and at specific entrances and locations designated by the fire code official. _____ Post "Flammable" sign at entrance to areas containing flammable or combustible liquids. TFC 2703.7.1 - Smoking. Smoking shall be prohibited and "No Smoking" signs provided as follows: 1. In rooms or areas where hazardous materials are stored or dispensed or used in open systems in amounts requiring a permit in accordance with Section 2701.5. 2. Within 25 feet (7620 mm) of outdoor storage, dispensing or open use areas. 3. Facilities or areas within facilities that have been designated as totally "no smoking" shall have "No Smoking" signs placed at all entrances to the facility or area. Designated areas within such facilities where smoking is permitted either permanently or temporarily, shall be identified with signs designating that smoking is permitted in these areas only. 4. In rooms or areas where flammable or combustible hazardous materials are stored, dispensed or used. Signs required by this section shall be in English as a primary language or in symbols allowed by this code and shall comply with Section 310. _____ Post "NO SMOKING" signs at entrance to areas containing flammable or combustible liquids. TFC 2703.5.1 Markings. Individual containers, cartons or packages shall be conspicuously marked or labeled in an approved manner. _____ All containers of flammable or combustible liquids shall be labeled, even if empty. TFC 703.1.1 - Fireblocking and draftstopping. Required fireblocking and draftstopping in combustible concealed spaces shall be maintained to provide continuity and integrity of the construction. _____ Replace missing ceiling tiles or remove remaining ones to eliminate combustible void. TFC 315.2.4 - Attic, under-floor and concealed spaces. Attic, under-floor and concealed spaces used for storage of combustible materials shall be protected on the storage side as required for 1-hour fire-resistance-rated construction. Openings shall be protected by assemblies that are self-closing and are of noncombustible construction or solid wood core not less than 1.75 inches in thickness. Storage shall not be placed on exposed joists. _____ Remove combustibles from above office or provide fireproofing (5/8" gypsum sheetrock) above joists. TFC 315.2.1 - Ceiling clearance. Storage shall be maintained 2 feet or more below the ceiling in nonsprinklered areas of buildings. _____ provide adequate clearance below ceiling above storage areas. TFC 605.4.2 - Power supply. Relocatable power taps shall be directly connected to a permanently installed receptacle. _____ Plug power strip directly into wall outlet (NW corner of West bldg). TFC 605.5 - Extension cords Extension cords and flexible cords shall not be a substitute for permanent wiring. Extension cords and flexible cords shall not be affixed to structures, extended through walls, ceilings or floors, or under doors or floor coverings, nor shall such cords be subject to environmental damage or physical impact. Extension cords shall be used only with portable appliances. _____ Replace extension cord serving outlet (for parts cleaner) with approved permanent wiring in conduit, or replace outlet with approved power strip. TFC 605.6 - Unapproved conditions. Open junction boxes and open-wiring splices shall be prohibited.
