10/05/2009 VIOL - MEANS OF EGRESS JBURGE Correction Required IFC 1008.1 Doors. Means of egress doors shall meet the requirements of this section. Doors serving a means of egress system shall meet the requirements of this section and Section 1017.2. Doors provided for egress purposes in numbers greater than required by this code shall meet the requirements of this section. Means of egress doors shall be readily distinguishable from the adjacent construction and finishes such that the doors are easily recognizable as doors. Mirrors or similar reflecting materials shall not be used on means of egress doors. Means of egress doors shall not be concealed by curtains, drapes, decorations or similar materials. _____1. Remove the clothing racks and other merchandise from blocking or obstructing all doors located on the north side of the building.
10/05/2009 VIOL - MEANS OF EGRESS JBURGE Correction Required IFC 1008.1.8 Door operations. Except as specifically permitted by this section egress doors shall be readily openable from the egress side without the use of a key or special knowledge or effort. _____1. Remove all double-keyed locks from the exterior doors located on the north side of the building and replace them with thumb-turn locks. NOTE: The only north door permitted to have a double-keyed lock is the entrance door.
10/05/2009 VIOL - MEANS OF EGRESS JBURGE Correction Required IFC 1008.1.8.3 Locks and latches. Locks and latches shall be permitted to prevent operation of doors where any of the following exists: 2.2. A readily visible durable sign is posted on the egress side on or adjacent to the door stating: THIS DOOR TO REMAIN UNLOCKED WHEN BUILDING IS OCCUPIED. The sign shall be in letters 1 inch (25 mm) high on a contrasting background, 2.3. The use of the key-operated locking device is revocable by the fire code official for due cause. _____1.Post the wording THIS DOOR TO REMAIN UNLOCKED WHEN BUILDING IS OCCUPIED on the inside of the entrance door.
