04/22/2008 VIOL - MEANS OF EGRESS JLONGO Correction Required 1008.1.8 Door operations. Except as specifically permitted by this section egress doors shall be readily openable from the egress side without the use of a key or special knowledge or effort. _____ Except for the main entrance, all double key locks shall be removed and/or turned into a thumb turn locks. 1008.1.8.3 Locks and latches. Locks and latches shall be permitted to prevent operation of doors where any of the following exists… -- 2. In buildings in occupancy Group A having an occupant load of 300 or less, Groups B, F, M and S, and in places of religious worship, the main exterior door or doors are permitted to be equipped with key-operated locking devices from the egress side provided: -- 2.1. The locking device is readily distinguishable as locked, -- 2.2. A readily visible durable sign is posted on the egress side on or adjacent to the door stating: THIS DOOR TO REMAIN UNLOCKED WHEN BUILDING IS OCCUPIED. The sign shall be in letters 1 inch (25 mm) high on a contrasting background, -- 2.3. The use of the key-operated locking device is revokable by the fire code official for due cause. _____ Post the wording "THIS DOOR TO REMAIN UNLOCKED WHEN BUILDING IS OCCUPIED" above main entrance door where the double key lock has been approved. 1011.5.3 Power source. Exit signs shall be illuminated at all times. To ensure continued illumination for a duration of not less than 90 minutes in case of primary power loss, the sign illumination means shall be connected to an emergency power system provided from storage batteries, unit equipment or an on-site generator _____ Fix all exits signs that are either burnt out or have no back up power. Make sure all exit signs are operational at all times. 1027.5 Illumination emergency power. The power supply for means of egress illumination shall normally be provided by the premises' electrical supply. In the event of power supply failure, illumination shall be automatically provided from an emergency system for the following occupancies where such occupancies require two or more means of egress: all Emergency lighting shall be functional and properly maintained in conjunction with IFC section 1027. * You back up power "batteries" are running low and should be replaced very soon.
