Below is a list of violations that shall be corrected to provide compliance with the applicable codes, regulations and ordinances. Compliance is required by the 2006 International Fire Code (with modifications). ___1. PROBLEM: Manual actuation pull stations located too close to cooking appliances. TFC REFERENCE: 904.11.1 Manual system operation. A manual actuation device shall be located at or near a means of egress from the cooking area a minimum of 10 feet (3048 mm) and a maximumof 20 feet (6096 mm) from the kitchen exhaust system. The manual actuation device shall be installed not more than 48 inches (1200 mm) nor less than 42 inches (1067 mm) above the floor and shall clearly identify the hazard protected. The manual actuation shall require a maximum force of 40 pounds (178 N) and a maximum movement of 14 inches (356 mm) to actuate the fire suppression system. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have qualified individual install manual hood actuation device no less than 10 feet and no more than 20 feet from cooking appliance in accordance with fire code. ___2. PROBLEM: Red caps not on nozzle tips. These caps are necessary to prevent nozzle tips from being plugged by grease build up and obstructions. TFC REFERENCE: 901.6 Inspection, testing and maintenance. Fire detection, alarm and extinguishing systems shall be maintained in an operative condition at all times, and shall be replaced or repaired where defective. AND: NFPA 17A, 4.3.1.5: All discharge nozzles shall be provided with caps or other suitable devices to prevent the entrance of grease vapors, moisture or other foreign materials into the piping. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Nozzle tips shall be free of obstructions and capped. ___3. PROBLEM: Hood system last serviced 9 mo ago. according to tag on pull station. TFC REFERENCE:904.11.6.4. Fire-extinguishing systems shall be serviced at least every 6 months and after activation of the system. Inspection shall be by qualified individuals, and a certificate of inspection shall be forwarded to the fire code official upon completion. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have hood serviced every 6 mo. ___4. PROBLEM: Class K fire extinguisher lacks a service tag and pressure gauge reads in the "needs recharge" zone. TFC REFERENCE: 901.6 Inspection, testing and maintenance. Fire detection, alarm and extinguishing systems shall be maintained in an operative condition at all times, and shall be replaced or repaired where defective. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have Class K portable fire extinguisher replaced/recharged and inspected yearly. ___5. PROBLEM: Service records of fire extinguishing sytems not available for inspection on the premises. TFC REFERENCE: 901.6.2 Records. Records of all system inspections, tests and maintenance required by the referenced standards shall be maintained on the premises for a minimum of three years and shall be copied to the fire code official upon request. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have copies of service records available on premises for Fire code official to inspect when requested.
