12/06/2007 VIOL - FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS JBEZEL Approved The Tucson Fire Department has conducted a hood suppression system inspection at the above stated business . Below is a list of violations that shall be corrected to provide compliance with the applicable codes, regulations and ordinances. Compliance is required by the 2006 International Fire Code (with modifications). ___1. PROBLEM: Pull stations are too close to cooking appliances. TFC REFERENCE: 904.11.1 Manual system operation. A manual actuation device shall be located at or near a means of egress from the cooking area a minimum of 10 feet (3048 mm) and a maximum of 20 feet (6096 mm) from the kitchen exhaust system. The manual actuation device shall be installed not more than 48 inches (1200 mm) nor less than 42 inches (1067 mm) above the floor and shall clearly identify the hazard protected. The manual actuation shall require a maximum force of 40 pounds (178 N) and a maximum movement of 14 inches (356 mm) to actuate the fire suppression system. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have qualified individual install manual pull stations in compliance with TFC. ___2. PROBLEM: Employee was questioned concerning activating hood system in case of emergency and could not describe procedure. TFC REFERENCE: 406.2 Frequency. Employees shall receive training in the contents of fire safety and evacuation plans and their duties as part of new employee orientation and at least annually thereafter. Records shall be kept and made available to the fire code official upon request. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Employees to be trained and knowledgeable in use of and location of emergency equipment. Records shall be kept on the premises of such training. ___3. PROBLEM: Electric cooking appliance beneath hood system where there once was a grill. Was this change of use approved or permitted? TFC REFERENCE: [M] 609.1 General. Commercial kitchen exhaust hoods shall comply with the requirements of the International Mechanical Code. NFPA17A, 5.6.4: Movable cooking equipment shall be provided with a means to ensure that it is correctly positioned in relation to the appliance discharge nozzle during cooking operations. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have qualified professional either provide change of use documentation or submit plans for such to the proper city department for approval.
