11/28/2007 VIOL - FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS JBEZEL Approved The Tucson Fire Department has conducted a hood suppression system inspection at the above stated business . Below is a list of violations that shall be corrected to provide compliance with the applicable codes, regulations and ordinances. Compliance is required by the 2006 International Fire Code (with modifications). ___1. PROBLEM: Manual pull stations are too close to cooking appliances. TFC REF: 904.11.1 A manual actuation device shall be located at or near a means of egress from the cooking area a minimum of 10 feet (3048 mm) and a maximum of 20 feet (6096 mm) from the kitchen exhaust system. The manual actuation device shall be installed not more than 48 inches (1200 mm) nor less than 42 inches (1067 mm) above the floor and shall clearly identify the hazard protected. The manual actuation shall require a maximum force of 40 pounds (178 N) and a maximum movement of 14 inches (356 mm) to actuate the fire suppression system. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have required manual pull stations installed per code. ___2. PROBLEM: Service records not produced on premises. TFC REF: 901.6.2 Records. Records of all system inspections, tests and maintenance required by the referenced standards shall be maintained on the premises for a minimum of three years and shall be copied to the fire code official upon request. REQUIRED CORRECTION: All inspection, repair and maintenance records shall be kept on the premises and produced upon request. ___3. PROBLEM: Class K portable fire extinguisher not plainly visible. TFC REF: 904.11.5 Portable fire extinguishers for commercial cooking equipment. Portable fire extinguishers shall be provided within a 30-foot (9144 mm) travel distance of commercial-type cooking equipment. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Place class K portable fire extinguisher in a more visible location within required distance. ___4. PROBLEM: Caps missing from hood nozzles. These caps are necessary to keep nozzles from becoming plugged by grease build up. NFPA REF: 17A, 4.3.1.5. All discharge nozzles shall be provided with caps or other suitable devices to prevent the entrance of grease vapors, moisture or other foreign materials into the piping.
