12/12/2006 INSP - FULL JDAVIS Correction Required Full Inspection conducted: FIRE INSPECTION REPORT 12/01/06 Ace Hardware ATTN: Harry Findysz 6959 E 22nd St. Tucson, AZ. 85710 Mr. Findysz, The Tucson Fire Department has conducted a fire safety inspection at the above stated business on December 12, 2006. Below is a list of violations that shall be corrected to provide compliance with the applicable codes, regulations and ordinances. Compliance is required by the 2003 International Fire Code with modifications. A Re-inspection will be performed on or about January 2, 2007. Violations: 901.4 Installation. Fire protection systems shall be maintained in accordance with the original installation standards for that system. Required systems shall be extended, altered, or augmented as necessary to maintain and continue protection whenever the building is altered, remodeled or added to. Alterations to fire protection systems shall be done in accordance with applicable standards. 1. Replace the missing caps on the FD connection in the front of the business. 2. Fire sprinkler system shall be extended to maintain coverage in the rear building. 605.6 Unapproved conditions. Open junction boxes and open-wiring splices shall be prohibited. Approved covers shall be provided for all switch and electrical outlet boxes. 1. Abate the exposed wires in the "Lighting section" 2. Place blank in the electrical panel where the breakers are missing in the break room 3. Display case in the hobby shop shall be wired in accordance with the Electrical Code. 703.1 Maintenance. The required fire-resistance rating of fire-resistance-rated construction (including walls, fire stops, shaft enclosures, partitions and floors) shall be maintained. Such elements shall be properly repaired, restored or replaced when damaged, altered, breached or penetrated. Openings made therein for the passage of pipes, electrical conduit, wires, ducts, air transfer openings, and holes made for any reason shall be protected with approved methods capable of resisting the passage of smoke and fire. Openings through fire-resistance- rated assemblies shall be protected by self-closing or automatic-closing doors of approved construction meeting the fire protection requirements for the assembly. 1. Replace missing or damage ceiling tiles in aisles 9, 10, 11, 17, 40, 53. 2. Replace missing or damaged ceiling tiles in plumbing, break room, 1008.1.8 Door operations. Except as specifically permitted by this section egress doors shall be readily openable from the egress side without the use of a key or special knowledge or effort. 1. The North West exit doors currently have a thumb latch on them. The are to be equipped with a thumb-latch type device. 1023.6 Access to a public way. The exit discharge shall provide a direct and unobstructed access to a public way. 1. Rear exit has panic hardware but leads into an enclosed area. An exit must lead to a public way. Provide clear and unobstructed path to a public way. 2. The rear exit from the hobby shop leads to a gated in area. Provide a clear and unobstructed path to a public way. 605.5 Extension cords. Extension cords and flexible cords shall not be a substitute for permanent wiring. Extension cords and flexible cords shall not be affixed to structures, extended through walls, ceilings or floors, or under doors or floor coverings, nor shall such cords be subject to environmental damage or physical impact. Extension cords shall be used only with portable appliances. 1. Remove the cord going to the T.V 2. Break room 3. SW corner of the main office 4. The power supply for means of egress illumination shall normally be provided by the premise's electrical supply. In the event of power supply failure, an emergency electrical system shall automatically illuminate… 1. The emergency light in the break room does not operate. 2. Mount emergency light in the main office 901.6 Inspection, testing and maintenance. Fire extinguishers shall be serviced annually 1. Throughout the business 315.2.1 Ceiling clearance. Storage shall be maintained 2 feet (610 mm) or more below the ceiling in nonsprinklered areas of buildings or a minimum of 18 inches (457 mm) below sprinkler head deflectors in sprinklered areas of buildings. 1. Stock shall not come with 18 inches of sprinkler heads: · Electrical Plumbing storage · Paint/ Garden Store room 605.4 Multiplug adapters. Multiplug adaptors, such as cube adaptors, unfused plug strips or any other device not complying with the ICC Electrical Code shall be prohibited. 1. Remove the unapproved multicube adapter in the office near the "candy selling" persons desk. 605.3 Working space and clearance. A working space of not less than 30 inches (762 mm) in width, 36 inches (914 mm) in depth and 78 inches (1981 mm) in height shall be provided in front of electrical service equipment. Where the electrical service equipment is wider than 30 inches (762 mm), the working space shall not be less than the width of the equipment. No storage of any materials shall be located within the designated working space. 1. Maintain clear access to electrical panel in the Paint/Garden store room 407.4 Training. Persons responsible for the operation of areas in which hazardous materials are stored, dispensed, handled or used shall be familiar with the chemical nature of the materials and the appropriate mitigating actions necessary in the event of a fire, leak or spill. Responsible persons shall be designated and trained to be liaison personnel for the Fire Department. These persons shall aid the Fire Department in preplanning emergency responses and identification of the locations where hazardous materials are located, and shall have access to Material Safety Data Sheets and be knowledgeable in the site emergency response procedures. 1. Train proper employees on your Hazardous Communications program. FIRE DEPARTMENT ACCESS TO EQUIPMENT 510.1 Identification. Fire protection equipment shall be identified in an approved manner. Rooms containing controls for air-conditioning systems, sprinkler risers and valves, or other fire detection, suppression or control elements shall be identified for the use of the fire department. Approved signs required to identify fire protection equipment and equipment location, shall be constructed of durable materials, permanently installed and readily visible. 1.
