10/26/2005 COMPL - INITIAL INSPECTION RDUARTE Approved Eng 8 checking out the Galleria Mall noticed that they have some of the valves chained closed on the standpipes. Insp D Ramirez went to American Home Furnishings. What it is is a riser with a shut off valve and 2 1/2" connection, after what maintenance person told inspector thinks its an extension to a hyrdrant (said someone had opened a hydrant outside, came in un capped it turn the valve and flooded the area. They've kept it in the closed position since. This is the first I've ever seen or heard of a connection like this in a bldg. Was this a requirement for this bldg at one time? It is required now? If so, can it be chained. ***This was referred to Jim Egan. ***
