01/06/2026 COT - ENFC - Code Enforcement - Initial Completed 355 pm - Called out to scene by TFD. Arrived and met with fire captain. Fire occurred in the bathroom due to the resident was using a heating element attached to an extension cord, plugged into the GFCI outlet in the bathroom to heat the water for the bathtub, due to no gas service to heat water. The power cord of the heating appliance was burned and bare copper wire exposed. Did not appear that the extension cord burned. Per TFD, the breaker to this room tripped. TFD reset the breaker prior to my arrival. I tested both the top and bottom of the GFCI, both are wired correctly and trip upon test; outlet is operating as intended. There is no fire damage to the walls or any part of the structure. Did speak to the resident and advised not to run extension cords to power high power drawing devices such as heaters. Called and spoke to the owner. No action taken as there is no building damage. -VM
